Helen Welford is Assistant Curator at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art. In this talk, she discusses the museum’s mission and programme with respect to stories of migration in Middlesbrough, addressing the role that the Middlesbrough Collection, housed by the museum, plays in that. MIMA is a museum that sees itself as ‘useful’, developing a civic agenda to reconnect the art institution with its social function and to promote art as a tool for change.
