X-ray vision - size matters!

Keith Wilson (Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of York)
To understand how things work you need to know their three dimensional structure - think of a car engine. The human eye has adapted to see things down to a size of around a tenth of a millimetre. However, atoms and molecules are more than one thousand times smaller than this. Therefore, we combine different techniques such as X-rays to amplify them and then, all will be revealed.

Honey, I Shrunk the Machine

Christoph Baumann (Lecturer in molecular biophysics, University of York)
Our everyday life relies on machines of different types. The everyday life of a biological cell also involves machines, but they are over a million times smaller. Despite their minuscule size these molecular machines accomplish amazing physical feats. Get ready for a guided tour on a completely different scale!
