From evolutionary adaptations to how we treat each other, our thoughts about the world and our place in it is always in flux. Come join Leslie, Nick, & Jason from the Milner Centre for a very special night to explore a shift in perspective on everything from brain games to evolutionary things. The function room is on the first floor above Green Park Brasserie. THERE IS NO ACCESS TO THE FUNCTION ROOM THROUGH THE BRASSERIE. The stairwell is to the left of the Brasserie, opposite the large noticeboard. We apologise but there is no wheelchair access.
Evolution needs fossils
Something old, something new, something rock, something....tooth? Come join Nick as he talks about using the fossil record to understand major evolutionary transitions, from animal to environment.
To cheat or not to cheat? That is cooperation.
Cooperation sounds like a win-win proposition; collaborate with others and you all succeed. But contributing to cooperative endeavours can be costly, so why not just leech off the contributions of others & come out ahead of your rivals? Understanding this conflict between selfishness and collective success underlies many economic problems and holds the key to dissecting cooperation & conflict in nature. Come join Jason for economic & evolutionary games to understand strategic behaviour and how we apply logic from these games to make and test predictions about social behaviour in nature.
Discovering the genetic origin of species
What are species anyway, and how do new ones evolve? And what is a zorse?? Come join Leslie to explore different ways we define a species and delve into DNA to learn how we get new ones!
