Did you know you’re more bacteria than human? Bugs help us with our everyday life but some of them can kill you. Come along tonight to find out what makes a bug go really bad and what our bodies can do to fight them off. This night is kindly sponsored by the British Society for Immunology South Wales, and Cardiff University Infection and Immunity Division.

Bacteria fighting back

Dr Maria Mendes De Carvalho (Co-lead/Manager Scientist, School of Medicine, Cardiff University)
Antibiotics are often taken for granted with the ability to cure potentially life-threatening diseases in a few short weeks, but what happens when they stop working? Antimicrobial resistance has been described as one of the greatest threats facing the future global population with even last resort antibiotics becoming useless. Come along to find out what is being done right here in Cardiff to tackle the threat.

Immune cells: right place, right time.

Dr Ann Ager (Reader, Infection and Immunity, Cardiff University)
Our immune system defends our body against infection and illness. It can get rid of anything unfamiliar like germs. How does it detect where germs have entered the body? Come along to find out how cells of the immune system get to the right place at the right time to clear germs from our bodies.
