José Harris said, “waiting hurts. Forgetting hurts. But, not knowing which decision to take can sometimes be the most painful”. Join Steve, a former firefighter, and Tim, a crime scene scientist to find out about decisions in crises and crime scenes. You'll find this special #Pint16 Teesside night at the Dickens Inn. There'll be plenty of audience participation and prizes to be won!

Don't Stress About It

Steve Wilks (Senior Lecturer in Safety Disaster & Risk Management)
How good do you think you are at making decisions? Have you ever struggled to make one? Have you made decisions that you think are wrong after you have made them? The answer to the last two questions is of course, yes! Everyone struggles with this function from time to time. My interest is in decision making and what goes wrong with it. According to Brehmer (1992) and Dörner (1989), there are five pathologies of decision making and I will be talking to you about them; and one or two other things too.

Who you are, where you've been, what you've left

Tim James (Crime Scene Science)
The classic quote in crime scene investigation and forensic science is that 'every contact leaves a trace', fortunately this is true and it is what is relied on in an investigation. Some techniques on how the question of 'who did what where' is answered ... with a little bit of audience participation! Some of the principles of evidence recovery are quite simple, but how they interact in an investigation can be complex. How this is done and the evidential value of material recovered will be explored.
