Join us for an evening all about the latest advances in superconductors and solar energy!

Superconductors

Gilles Rodway-Gant (PhD Candidate, Cavendish Laboratories, University of Cambridge)
Nick Popiel (PhD Candidate, Cavendish Laboratories, University of Cambridge)
Superconductors are materials that can conduct electricity with zero resistance. They can revolutionize transport, energy production and even medicine – but unfortunately, conventional superconductors only work at incredibly low temperatures.Gilles Rodway-Gant and Nick Popiel attempt to uncover what mechanisms are responsible for superconductivity by exposing them to extreme magnetic fields and ultra-low temperatures with the hope of finding the elusive room temperature superconductor.

Solar Panels Doing Chemistry

Professor Erwin Reisner (Professor of Energy and Sustainability, University of Cambridge)
Professor Reisner will present a future scenario, where waste, water and air are precious resources in a solar-powered economy. He will make a case for solar energy and the need to produce fuels and green chemicals for transportation, energy storage and the chemical industry. The concept of solar panels that can not only produce electricity, but can generate sustainable energy carriers and chemicals will be presented.
