Winter (or summer) is coming: how not to die in Britain's extreme weather

Maria Vinogradova (Research student)
Floods and storms come in all shapes and sizes to the UK; some just get your feet wet, others paralyse entire regions for months. The UK's extreme weather is a serious risk to homeowners and the economy, but it can also claim lives. New research into who dies, where, and how suggests that the nature of the risk posed by extreme weather is different from what we expect. It's time to look closer at how we react to rising waters and battering winds.

The fascinating evolution of risk perception research

Dominic Way (Research student)
2002 Nobel Prize Winner Daniel Kahneman has been warmly called the 'Godfather' of risk perception research. This presentation explores some of his most ground-breaking findings by providing interactive demonstrations on why we think fast and slow. Dominic will take you through the fascinating journey undertaken since the 1980s by his students and other successors on how and why we all think differently about risk and risks issues relating to the environment, technology, food, medicines and beyond.
