Explosive Movie Making

This talk explores the work done to create a special effects sequence for a film called ‘The Fall’ where an Indian ‘Temple’ was demolished by explosives. A number of different explosive initiation systems are described and explanations of why and how some of these were applied to the large scale model demolition for the movie, parallels are drawn between the types of systems used in the movies to those used for defence and industrial explosives research work. Included are videos of various explosive tests, a ‘making of’ video and the final full explosive sequence as it appears in the movie.
