Autoimmune diseases, including around 80 different illnesses from rheumatoid arthritis to diabetes and multiple sclerosis, occur when the immune system attacks its own body. These diseases are fairly common, affecting around one in 20 people, but they’re often under-studied because, although they lead to long-term debilitating disease, they’re rarely a primary cause of death. Tonight, find out how you can help researchers make breakthroughs in the field!

Unfortunately this venue is not wheelchair accessible.

We need YOU to cure arthritis

There is a war raging in the bodies of people with rheumatoid arthritis. Their own immune system, which is supposed to protect them from invading bugs and viruses, instead attacks their own joints. The BIO-FLARE project, with a team of clinicians and scientists at Newcastle University, aims to understand why the immune system of these patients gets so confused! This work cannot be done alone: patient input is invaluable in finding a cure to win the fight against arthritis. Hear about how we aim to win this battle and how we depend on amazing patient volunteers to make this work possible!
