Microbiota: Our friends within?

Professor Julian Ketley (Chair in Bacterial Genetics; University of Leicester)
We are more Microbe than Man. More microbial cells live in us than human cells and we contain far more microbial genes than our own. It is perhaps no surprise that the nature and diversity of the microbes that live in us, our microbiota, have a great influence on our lives. After an explanation of the nature of our microbiota, and the way to identify what is there, I will highlight some of the ways that the microbes within us affect our health and even mental well-being.
