Travelling faster than light: On purpose or otherwise

Matthew Shribman (Science Communicator)
How big is the universe these days? How are we going to get out there to visit nearby stars and planets for holidays etc.? Can we go at light speed yet? Or faster? Why do people keep claiming "faster than light" discoveries? Are there different speeds of light? Can you bring light to a stop, and then overtake it by striding past it? What can you make out of light if it's your only raw material? Matthew will answer all of these questions and more!

How to build a star

Joseph Milnes (MAST Upgrade Project Leader)
With fossil fuel resources dwindling and having a negative effect on our climate, nuclear fusion research has never been so necessary. At its lab in Oxfordshire, the UK Atomic Energy Authority is about to complete the construction of the MAST Upgrade fusion device. One of the major challenges in a fusion power plant will be extracting the huge amount of energy for electricity production without damaging the walls. MAST-U will be the first fusion experiment in the world to test a new power exhaust system to help solve one of the major unanswered questions for building a fusion power plant.
