Safer drug consumption facilities

Kirsten Horsburgh (National Naloxone Coordinator at Scottish Drugs Forum)
Safer Drug Consumption Facilities have been running since the mid-1980s with 90 facilities across 61 cities. The majority are in Europe, with one in Vancouver and one in Sydney. The facilities seek to contribute to a reduction in drug use in public places and the presence of discarded needles and other related public order problems linked with public injecting. Join Kirsten from Scottish Drugs Forum as she discusses the reasons Glasgow may open the first Safer Drug Consumption Facility in the UK.

Adult "popular education"

Dr. Liam Kane (Senior Lecturer)
In various parts of the world, development has not only brought little or no benefit to the poorest communities of the planet, it has arguably made matters worse. As a result, in Latin America in particular, an alternative way of thinking about and doing education - commonly known as 'popular education' - has developed. With reference to Latin America, this session will address key questions such as: What is (or should be) the purpose of education? What should education be conducted or practised? Finally, does the experience of 'popular education' in Latin America have any relevance for the UK?
