The Imagine Festival of the Arts returns to Sutton in south west London this October. The theme of this year’s Imagine Festival is famous author H. G. Wells, one-time resident of Worcester Park and writer of The War of the Worlds, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and The Time Machine. We've teamed up with the Institute of Cancer Research, London and Sutton Council to bring you this one-off event. More tickets available here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/seeing-the-future-with-a-pint-of-science-tickets-26919740669

Steampunk Activities

HG Wells thought deeply about the impact of science on human lives, and The Shape of Things to Come. This October, Pint of Science and The Institute of Cancer Research, London team up to bring some of Sutton's modern-day scientists to tell you about their latest research and The War of the Worlds they face to defeat cancer. Step into The Time Machine to see what science holds for the future of cancer treatment and try out some hands-on activities inspired by Victorian science

Seeing inside the body

Marcia Costa (PhD student)
How has our ability to see inside the body changed since the time of HG Wells? And how can we use this to fight cancer? Marcia Costa, who works in radiotherapy and imaging at the ICR, will be answering these questions.

Predicting the path of cancer

Dr Benjamin Werner (Post-doctoral Training Fellow )
How can we know how a disease will progress in the future? Ben will talk about predicting the path of cancer, and his work modelling the way cancer cells’ genomes change as the disease progresses.

The Invisible Man - predicting cancer relapse

Dr Emily Grist (medical oncologist)
Emily works on bio-markers, tiny molecules that reveal the state of a patient’s health and help us predict what’s to come. She will be talking about seeing these go from the lab to the hospital, and what this means for the future of cancer medicine.
