We welcome everyone to an in-depth look at the complex challenges faced by women in society, and how these challenges could be highlighted and resolved with the lived experience of women. We will also be focusing on the experience of unaccompanied migrant children in the UK, told by the migrant children themselves.

Revealing reality: a sociological approach to women’s lived experience through narrative inquiry

Dr Victoria Showunmi (Associate Professor, Institute of Education)
The methods I choose to generate data lie at the heart of my work. My aim is to listen to the authentic voices of research informants so their experience can be more widely shared. I provide a platform for women to speak to the multiple challenges they face. Data analysis is thematic. I do not start with a hypothesis as I use grounded theory. I generate a new theory which originates in the findings. Social justice is fundamental to my work. I extrapolate recommendations for reform and policy to promote equality from the data.

Children caring on the move

Dr Rachel Rosen (Associate Professor, Institute of Education)
How many lone child migrants are in the UK? Who should, can, and does care for these young people? Explore these questions with Dr Rachel Rosen by listening to the voices of children and young people in the film Stories too Big for a Case File: Unaccompanied Young People Confront the Hostile Environment.
