Drug discovery for autoimmune diseases and cancers - RedX Pharma

Dr. Peter Bunyard (Head of the Immunology Biology team at Redx Pharma)
Peter has over 12 years experience in pharmaceutical research, working on a broad range of human diseases from research to clinical phases. While working with commercial and academic partners, Peter has been involved in outreach projects, such as at Staffordshire University, engaging minds in the pharmaceutical industry. Peter will provide an overview of what drug discovery is and its benefits.

Dr. Sam Butterworth (Senior Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry)
Before working as an academic, Sam spent eight years at the pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca, playing a key role in the discovery of osimertinib, a drug for late-stage lung cancer. Sam will discuss how the chemical structure of drugs controls their biological effects and how understanding this helps scientists develop effective treatments against human disease.
