Our microbial mind

Dr Jon Swann (Senior Lecturer in Microbiomics and Human Development)
The human body plays host to trillions of microorganisms. The vast majority of these reside in the gut (collectively referred to as the gut microbiota) where they provide key functions for the body and have been implicated in both health and disease. Emerging evidence has identified a cross-talk to exist between the gut microbiota and the brain with potential for these microbes to influence emotional behaviour and cognition. This talk will discuss our current understanding of this exciting gut-brain axis.
