Amazing Electric Bacteria

Prof Julea Butt (Professor of Biophysical Chemistry at University of East Anglia)
Electricity can be generated from a surprising source - bacteria found in soils and sediments. Julea will explore how ‘rock-breathing bacteria’ act as biobatteries, show applications for this technology and explain how research at the University of East Anglia is revealing the molecular basis of these behaviours.

Making Complex Science Simple

Dr Tony Blake (Lecturer in Biological Sciences at University of East Anglia)
As research into electric bacteria has advanced at the University of East Anglia so has the collection of education resources associated with the project. This includes puzzles, mini fuel cells and even a virtual reality platform showing the journey of an electron! Join Tony as he shares his top tips for engaging audiences with science and takes us through some of the outreach activities developed for the Norwich Science Festival, Royal Norfolk Show and Learning Zone at Latitude Festival.
