The Samsara of Saltmarshes
Coastal wetlands are trapped in a cycle of expansion and erosion; they are a dynamic place, where the rise and fall of tides sculpt coastal habitats like salt marshes. As coastal scientists, we’ve grown to appreciate the complex relationship between plants, water, and sediment, that shape these precious landscapes. In this talk, Dr. Cai Ladd will follow the formation and degradation of a salt marsh, and come to appreciate how they exist in a cycle of establishment and erosion, akin to the Indian philosophy of samsara - the endless cycle of death and rebirth.
