Join us tonight at Pews for another eclectic mix as we explore research fields as diverse as the mysterious quantum mechanics, vaccine tech and how AI is re shaping our lives.......all for the better of course.

Chaos, quantum mechanics, and living computers

Michael Clarke-Whittet (PHD Student)
Quantum mechanics govern the fundamental actions of matter in our universe, but our ability to make use of them ourselves is just beginning. Evidence is growing that life produced by Darwinian evolution, possibly our own bodies, were the original quantum engineers. The chaotic nature of living things challenges everything we know about quantum mechanics and the universe built using them.

RNA vaccines and next-gen medicine

Dr Oliver Rogoyski (Postdoctoral Research Fellow, RNA Biology and Biochemistry)
RNAs are some of the most important molecules for life on this planet, providing genetic instructions to build life before DNA was even around. Now hitting the headlines for its role in many of the vaccines designed to protect from COVID, it's time to ask: What exactly is RNA, how do these new vaccines work, and how else might RNA feature in next-gen medicine?

Putting people at the heart of artificial intelligence

Dr Andrew Rogoyski (Director of Innovation and Partnerships at the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI)
Andrew will talk about the recent renewed interest in AI and how this technology is starting to make its presence felt in many walks of modern life. Andrew will also discuss the formation of the new Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI and how this intends to change the direction of AI, from technology-led developments into something that tries first and foremost to solve the challenges faced by human beings. Andrew is the Director of Innovation and Partnerships at the new Institute, joining the University last year, after spending 30 years in tech industry. His aim is to bring real-world
