The Human Brain: A Truly Incredible Structure

Dr Amy Jenkins (Speaker)
The human brain is a remarkable organ...a truly incredible structure! In this talk, I will enlighten and entertain the audience with information about the human brain and about how sometimes it does not work in the way it should/usually would.

Stimulating the Ageing Brain

Dr Claire J. Hanley (Speaker)
Brains are brilliant - it would be hard to argue otherwise. As we get older, our brains attempt to compensate for neural changes but what happens when resources run low and demand starts to exceed supply? Memory, attention, you name it - it’s all downhill, right!? Not necessarily. We can give our neurons a much needed jump-start with non-invasive brain stimulation methods. The talk will focus on one of the most promising techniques, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS): what it is, how it works, and why it is particularly valuable in the context of ageing.
