Dr Stefanski, expert in the study of string theory, will take the audience to a journey trough the theory of holography, connecting the theories of black holes and elementary particles. Dr Stefanski will give two talks. During the break, there will be games and special Pint of Science goodies to be won! The event will be in the first floor room.
What string theory has tought us about quantum gravity and nuclear forces

Nuclear reactions and black holes seem like very different kinds of physics. One has to do with what happens inside atoms, while the other concerns big objects in space. A conjecture known as holography says that the theories behind them are in fact equivalent, or dual, to each other. This unexpected result has caused physicists and mathematicians to re-evaluate how they think of these theories. Dr Stefanski will give an introduction to this unexpected and profound result, how Juan Maldacena was led to it through the study of black holes, and how string theorists have been proving it.
