Tonight is about interactivity. One talk takes a look at when Hull will be underwater through the use of games, whilst the other looks at how you can be part of an army of citizen scientists, helping to combat river pollution!
Citizen-Led River Water Analysis
Samantha Richardson
(PhD Student - The University of Hull)
Checking for pollution in your local rivers could one day be as easy as a high-school chemistry lesson. Samantha will take you through how a single piece of paper could reimagine the way we approach river conservation.
When will Hull be Underwater?
Dr Chris Skinner
(Research Fellow - The University of Hull)
Many believe the fate of Hull is to one day be under the sea, most probably in the next 100 years. In a city that has recently and repeatedly experienced the horror and misery that flooding brings, it is a belief which is interwoven with the culture of the city itself giving rise to a Hullensian Apocalypse myth. This gamified talk will explore the relationship between water, Hull, and its culture, and attempt to answer the question of when Hull will be underwater.
