Think about the last time you used a plant ……… we use plants for food, to feed our ‘food’, for the clothes we wear and to decorate our homes. Importantly plants are essential for the air we breathe! Using cutting-edge technologies and research, today, plants can do much more for us than ever before. I will introduce you to new developments in crop improvement, biofuels, phytoremediation and the production of pharmaceuticals. Come along & explore the wide-ranging and innovative uses of plant biotechnology improving our lives.
GM Crops – Friend or Foe?

Transgenic crops have now been grown for over 20 years across the world but are they here to stay? Whom are they benefiting? Should we worry about environmental consequences of their use or embrace them as one of the tools to help reduce world hunger? I will be giving an overview of how to create a transgenic plant, and the practical, environmental, and ethical issues around their deployment.
