Unknown Questions for Known Technologies: A Philosophical Debate About the Nature of an Algorithmic World
Why do we (humans) give up liberally our power of free will to big data algorithms and how is the society undermined by these algorithms. What is happening to a society which is driven by an external manipulatable cloud of data. The philosophy rejuvenates and starts to ask these important questions and tries to provide answers which will be debated at this very evening at a pint of science.
Steadying unsteady hands: Helping Parkinson Disease patients
Parkinson Disease is a disease can has no cure yet. It affects sufferers by causing unwanted motions (called tremours) usually of the hands. As a result, the patient’s quality of life is hugely affected. There are amazing ongoing research work on finding a medical cure for the disease but we are not there yet. Whilst we wait for discovery of a medical solution, this talk presents an engineer’s attempt at helping steady such unsteady hands. I will discuss my work on a developing a fashionable smart wearable device which when worn by the patients can suppress the tremors.
