Weather on Steroids? Is It Getting More Extreme?

Claire Burke (Climate Change Specialist at the Met Office)
Is climate change bringing us more extreme weather? If the world is warming why aren’t we getting more hot summers? Are extreme weather events, like the recent floods in the North of England, becoming more common? Could the weather get even more extreme in the future? I will discuss how climate change affects the most extreme weather, and talk about how extreme weather could be in the future if the world continues to warm.

Forecasting & The Future of Meteorology

Helen Roberts (Senior Operational Meteorologist at the Met Office)
Public weather forecasting has been around for over 150 years and weatherlore and amateur weather prediction for a lot longer. Thankfully, the science has improved immeasurably since those early days and it continues to evolve and improve at a rapid pace. But how do we do it, what improvements are coming and why does it all matter?
