Dr Rachel Hiller
(Prize Fellow)
Dr Sarah Halligan
(Professor)
The majority of young people will be exposed to a potentially traumatic event at some point in their childhood. This might include accidental traumas, such as car accidents, or intentional traumas, such as assaults, or exposure to domestic violence. In this talk we will discuss our research and the wider evidence-base on (i) the impact of trauma on children and families, covering children exposed to single-traumas, and children in higher-risk environments, including those in the foster care system; (ii) how parents and caregivers can support children who have been exposed to trauma.
