Thinking about the future can often have mixed emotions. From post-apocalyptic machine uprisings to the invention of new technologies that will change our lives, and the planet, for the better. So what does the future hold for you tonight?

Join us Laura Hunt and Daniel Whitt at Chilli Devil's @ The New Clarence for a Tech Me Out night into artificial brains and renewable energy. Is this the next stage of human evolution? Only one way to find out.

How to build an artificial brain

Laura Hunt (PhD Researcher in Astrophysics)
Two heads are better than one, but what if one isn’t human? At first, the concept may sound a bit bizarre but when you really think about it we are becoming more and more reliant on technology to manage our everyday lives. So what impact will artificial intelligence have on our technology? Discover the potential of machine learning and AI as I show you how to build an artificial brain in the form of a neural network.

Best Things Come in Small Cavities

Daniel Whitt (PhD Researcher in Nanophysics )
The problem: Climate change is caused by burning fossil fuels. The solution: well that's complicated. Ideally, the planet needs to move more toward using green renewable energy and become a lot less reliant on fossil fuels. This is easier said than done especially considering the current infrastructure and energy demands of the world. But it definitely isn't impossible. This talk will look at different ways to use our current technology to make real change today and what we can expect to see in the future.

Hosted by Prof Brad Gibson

Professor Brad Gibson (Director of E.A. Milne Centre for Astrophysics)
Pint of Science veteran Professor Brad Gibson will bring his unique insights into the Space Sciences to bear upon the evening, in the support of a number of the country’s top PhD students bringing their amazing research to the people from across the region.
