Sustainable management of shark biodiversity conservation in the Maldives
Danielle Robinson
(Research Fellow)
Embark on a journey to the waters of the Maldives as we uncover the efforts towards preserving the rich biodiversity of sharks. Amidst the backdrop of one of the world's principal shark sanctuaries, our speaker employs innovative techniques including baited remote underwater video to assess reef shark abundance trends. Learn about the critical role these majestic creatures play in marine ecosystems and the strategies employed for their sustainable management.
Anglesey to Annapurna
Alex Scoffield
(PhD Student )
From beginner kayaker to paddling around a high-altitude lake in the Himalaya, this talk will highlight the triumphs and trials of remote fieldwork. Hear how Alex and her colleagues braved rugged landscapes to install sensors at Nepal’s Thulagi lake at 4000 m a.s.l.. Their goal? To better understand how lakes and glaciers interact, and ultimately how freshwater resources in this region may change. This talk will start on the Menai Strait, moving through mountain rituals and a love for diamox, and finishing with the challenges that female Early Career Researchers face (and can overcome) on remote fieldwork.
