Alchemy in Action: How Nuclear Physicists Can Turn Lead into Gold

Transmutation is a modern reality, with isotopes produced in nuclear reactors and particle accelerators that are used in nuclear medicine, materials testing, and fundamental science. Stars transmute elements to produce the energy they need to pause their inevitable collapse. In this talk I'll cover some of the ways elements are changed from one to another - in the lab and in nature - and why the alchemist's dream of turning lead into gold is still just a dream.
