Juggling Frozen Atoms to Detect Black Holes
Henry Throssel
(PhD Student)
Join us to discover how tiny atoms can be used to detect ripples in space and time and how this has a profound impact on our understanding of the universe. We’ll explore the MAGIS experiment which freezes atoms and uses them to detect dark matter and understand events that happened 1.3 billion years ago.

Solar cells: Lets go flexible!
Abhinav Kumar Singh
(PhD Student)
Tired of your headphones dying mid-song or your speaker giving up when you’re on a beach with your friends? Imagine a future where your gadgets – from phones and headphones to wearables are powered by the sun! This dream can all become reality with this new type of material called perovskite solar cells (PSCs). These exciting new materials are cheap, lightweight, can be made flexible, and even tuned for indoor lights. My research explores ways of scalable manufacturing of these flexible PSCs. Come along, and you'll even get to hold a flexible solar cell and experience the future firsthand!

Sustainable Aviation Fuel: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Dr Stephen Wilkinson
(Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering/Chief Technology Officer of Avioxx)
Could your household waste power the planes of the future? Currently, municipal waste is mainly burned. Join me to discover why I’m on a mission to convert this waste into Jet Fuel, helping to address the climate emergency. We won't be getting clean hydrogen or electric passenger jets any time soon, so in this talk, I’ll talk about the good reasons to reduce global warming; Bad ways of trying to make Sustainable Aviation Fuel; and the Ugly world of waste.
