Building an (artificial) brain

Dr Marc Fivaz (Associate Professor/Reader in Biomedical Science)
Dr Wim J.C. Melis (Senior Lecturer)
The human brain has intrigued many people over several decades. Join us for a mind-boggling and inspiring journey through the brain which will focus on how a brain is built. The journey will cover recent progress in stem cell biology which enables scientists to grow “mini brains” in the laboratory, while also reverse engineering the brain to create an artificial version to e.g. aid with Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. Along this journey, we will touch on the aspects of bioethics and brain disorders, among other puzzling aspects of science’s journey in discovering the brain!
