You have to look into a brain to know what’s going on deep inside it. Let us introduce you to the wonderful discoveries and hopes of King’s neuroscientists through the lenses of medical imaging

A voyage into the brain

Professor Antony Gee
How does the human brain function? Join us in an exploration through functional neuroimaging of the way our brain works. Prof Antony Gee will explore how neurotransmission signalling is regulated in our brain and how imaging can help unravel the mysteries of brain function in health and disease.

It all started from an equation: the maths that revolutionised medical imaging

Professor Federico Turkheimer
In 1928 Paul Dirac, a young English physicist with a very odd character but a brilliant mind, set out to incorporate Einstein's relativity into the motion of elementary particles. Little he knew that the short and sharp equation he produced (the only piece of math inscribed in Westminster Abbey) would start a revolution into physics that has directly lead to the development of modern MRI and PET scanners

Looking inside a Fly’s Brain

Dr Joseph Bateman
Despite their brain size, flies share many features with the human brain, making them ideal, simple models to study complex neurological processes and diseases that affect humans.
The ability to image the brain has been key to these advances. Genetic tools able to label specific cells have allowed us to “see” into the fly brain with incredible precision.
