Modelling brain tumours: taking cancer biology into the third dimension. Brain tumours are the leading cause of cancer-related death in children. To discover exciting new therapies and test them effectively in the lab, we need to design models that mimic the multi-dimensionality and complexity of real-life human brain tumours. Join us as we delve into the innovative techniques scientists are using to grow brain tumours outside of the body and find out about how we are using some of these methods to develop novel treatments here in Newcastle.

Can we grow old gracefully and dodge the cancer bullets our body throws at us? As we age, our cells grow and divide, but they can also make mistakes called “mutations”. (They can’t all be perfect like us fine Geordie-folk, you know!) Yes, sometimes these mutations can cause cancer – but no, it’s not all doom and gloom, because we think we’ve found a way to treat cancers with one of these mutations!
