Do we challenge our brains or do our brains challenge us?  Come join Tayfun and Mark to gain a new perspective on our senses and our brains. The function room is on the first floor above Green Park Brasserie.  THERE IS NO ACCESS TO THE FUNCTION ROOM THROUGH THE BRASSERIE.  The stairwell is to the left of the Brasserie, opposite the large noticeboard. We apologise but there is no wheelchair access.

Is your “pint” half empty or half full?

It’s almost the end of a warm day in May and you’ll already have drunk half a pint, enjoying beautiful conversations about science. And now, we will explore how seeing, hearing, tasting and smelling affect our decisions and beliefs, creating multi-sensory worlds and experiences. We will race prunes and lemons (hopefully agree on a winner too!), talk about invisible spheres and cubes, and learn how to “see” with our ears and tongues.

Are you a bit autistic?

Famous American comedian Jerry Seinfeld recently said that he felt he was a bit autistic, which caused uproar amongst the autistic community. Can you be ‘a bit’ autistic? Is there an autism continuum that we are all on somewhere - some more than others? Instead of saying some people are ‘loners’, ‘aloof’, ‘odd’, or ‘from Yorkshire’, should we be saying they are a bit autistic? Come join Mark to discuss the social communication and behavioural flexibility issues that characterise autism, and whether we are all a bit ‘Rain Man’ or ‘Sheldon Cooper’.
