Dark Matter is an entirely unknown entity that makes up the majority of the Universe.  What is it?  What does it do? We have two expert guest speakers who will discuss what this mysterious dark matter actually is and how we know it exists.

Diving in the Dark : A Big Bang Story of our Universe

Dr Lucien Heurtier (Postdoctoral Research Associate)
Black Holes, Dark Matter, Dark Energy, those different objects compose over 95% of our Universe's content today. What are those things? How do we even know they exist? Have you heard of gravitational lensing? Cosmological Doppler effect? Sit back, relax, and let me drive you through some of the most fascinating notions and discoveries in Cosmology. No one will get hurt: we won't go faster than light.

Physics Fan Fiction: The search for Dark Matter

Dr Francesca Chadha-Day (Assistant Professor (Research) - Hawking Fellowship)
What kind of particle is Dark Matter, the mysterious substance that makes up 85% of matter in the universe? The short answer is - we don't know. Fran will take us through how theoretical physicists create and test ideas for the identity of Dark Matter by writing fan fiction for the universe.
