From galaxies of stars to a new universe of proteins

Professor Dek Woolfson
Most of our universe is made up of “dark” matter and “dark” energy. We cannot see this, but we know it’s there. Scientists are exploring the “dark matter of protein space” - biological molecules that in theory could exist, but natural biology has either discarded, or simply not discovered them. Are there alternatives to the biology that evolved on Earth? Can these be put to use? Dek will describe this research area, what we might learn from it, and how we may be able to utilise it.
