This evening is focussing on two different hazards - volcanoes and dinosaurs. Follow Jenny to Guatemala and their volcanoes. Come and see what happens when a palaeontologist and an artist come together, and reconstruct what dinosaurs looked like! Have all illustrations of our favourite books been a lie?

Reconstructing the Colours of Dinosaurs

What colour were the dinosaurs? Does anyone really know?
Researchers at the University of Bristol have found that the pigments that colour our hair black and ginger preserve in long extinct fossils and give important clues to the colour of dinosaurs. Together with paleoartist Bob and Jakob will show a remarkable new dinosaur fossil that preserves colour patterns and shows how we can reconstruct a 130 million year old fossil and reverse engineer the environment it lived in.

Hot Stuff: Living in the Shadow of Guatemala’s Volcanoes

Guatemala is one of the most volcanically active countries on Earth. Erupting volcanoes lend the landscape its stunning natural beauty; they also pose very real hazards to life and livelihoods in Central America. Over a pint (or two), I’ll tell you about a recent trip I took to study Guatemala’s volcanoes and what I encountered along the way. We’ll talk about how volcanoes work, how they've shaped this country’s rich and complex history, and the modern challenge of responding to volcanic hazards in the developing world.
