How have our natural and built landscapes evolved, and what will they look like in the future? Geographers, geologists and civil engineers come together to discuss the physical and human-driven changes to our local, national, and global landscapes, and the hazards they might pose!

Take your chance to win cool Pint of Science merch and get discounted drinks offers all night such as four bottles of Heineken, Sol or Peroni for £12!

From Nano to Mega – Looking at Landslides Across the Scales

Dr Tom Dijkstra (Reader in Engineering Geomorphology)
Landslides pose a serious hazard to communities living in dynamic landscapes. To better understand how the earth moves we have investigated processes from the nano-scale (about one thousandth of the width of a human hair) to the mega-scale of our greatest mountain ranges. We use these observations to improve our knowledge of how earth materials become unstable and create safer communities.

Concrete 3D Printing Technology and Its Applications

Abdul Azziz Al Farhan (Doctoral Researcher)
Within the past 15 years, the 3D concrete printing technology has become increasingly attractive as a viable innovative technique for construction. Its implementation has largely been used as a method to improve productivity performances and to reduce waste. 3D printed concrete provides the opportunity to streamline the construction process by reducing the number of intermediate stages required. This includes the use of formwork, where it accounts for approximately one third of construction costs and time.

3D printed concrete has demonstrated an advantage in aiding design customisability due to its capabilities in the construction of complex geometries. Through recent developments and rapid growth in its applications, it is expected that 3D concrete printing will form an exciting contribution to the concrete and construction industry.
