This evening, ‘Our Society’ takes to the skies with talks on the impact of aerospace engineering to the East Midlands region. We’ll discuss the application of modern technologies, how this has changed the field of research, and the resulting progress this has allowed. Plus get the chance to experience Virtual Reality yourselves!

Frida Nzaba (Manufacturing Engineer, Rolls-Royce)
We will begin this evening with a talk from Frida Nzaba, an engineer at Rolls-Royce, about the impact of aerospace engineering to the East Midlands region. She will also give us an insight of the alternative routes into engineering through her own personal journey in the aviation industry.

How can Virtual Reality improve our experience at airports?

Traveling through airports can be both exciting and stressful. Activities there such as watching the planes take off, enjoying the amenities and browsing the shops can be highly relaxing. On the other hand, waiting in queues, security and navigating through airports can be highly stressful. What can modern technologies do to alleviate the negative emotions that may emerge during airport travel? This talk will present some emerging insights gained from the opportunities that technologies e.g. Virtual Reality can offer to support and enhance passenger experience at airports.

What does the environment, robots, Nottingham and a pair of wings have in common? More than you might think… Innovation in engineering can positively impact how we live, work and travel. This talk will explore the connections through cutting edge research and development being carried out at the University of Nottingham.
