AI is revolutionising both drug development and the understanding of mental health. In this talk, we explore how AI-driven drug discovery is accelerating the creation of new treatments, while mathematical models of emotions change how we choose mental health treatments. Discover how technology and research are transforming the future of pharmaceuticals and mental health treatment.

The mathematics of healthy emotions

Professor Quentin Huys (Professor of Computational Psychiatry Applied Computational Psychiatry Lab, Division of Psychiatry and Queen Square Institute of Neurology, UCL Deputy Director, Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research, UCL Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist, North London NHS Foundation Trust Lead, MHM Mood Disorders Research Clinic, North London NHS Foundation Trust)
Many good treatments for mental disorders have been developed over the past century. They include a vast array of medications, psychotherapeutic and social interventions and brain stimulation protocols to mention a few. While this is great in principle, we don't fully understand either ailment or treatment, and so don't know which treatment will work from whom. In this talk, I will describe how researchers are building on insights into the mathematics of our emotions and thinking to help understand and choose treatments for mental illnesses better.

Using AI for the discovery of life-saving therapies

Dr. Bethan Kilpatrick (Senior Principal Scientist)
Bethan will explore how artificial intelligence is supporting the pharmaceutical industry. Can AI reduce the time, cost, and failure rates associated with traditional drug development? With the capacity to analyse complex biological data, predict molecular properties, and even design novel compounds from scratch, AI holds great potential. There are clear examples of AI-driven breakthroughs, from identifying new disease targets to creating drug candidates that have reached clinical trials. AI is changing medicine development, augmenting expertise, and accelerating life-saving therapies.
