Will we be able to upload our mind to the cloud soon? Can AI help design a more sustainable future? And why should we care about cyber security? Researchers are pushing the boundaries between SciFi and reality, developing technology that can enhance the human experience.
Cyber security - Why should I care?
Prof. Steven Furnell
(Professor of Cyber Security at the University of Nottingham)
Steven Furnell is a Professor of Cyber Security at the University of Nottingham. His research interests include usability of security technologies, and enhancing awareness and cyber security literacy for users. He has authored over 360 papers in international journals and conferences, as well as various books, book chapters, and industry reports. He is a board member of the Chartered Institute of Information Security, and has is involved in a variety of cyber security projects and collaborations in the UK and internationally.
Mind Uploading - Science Fiction or Science?
Angela Thornton
(Postgraduate researcher at the HORIZON Centre for Doctoral Training at the University of Nottingham)
Angela Thornton is a postgraduate researcher at the HORIZON Centre for Doctoral Training at the University of Nottingham. Her research explores the futuristic concept of mind uploading. This may be a hypothetical scenario, but it is underpinned by on-going research in whole brain emulation or ‘reverse engineering’ the brain. Angela is also a Certified Member of the Market Research Society and set up her own consultancy in 2014.
