Personalised medicine can seem like a futuristic idea, but it may be closer than you think! Learn about some of the science that goes into these technologies, from researchers who can tell you a little bit more about Microfluidics (working with tiny volumes but making big discoveries) and making organs from stem cells. A night of fascinating science and fun activities!

A Pitcher of Microfluidics

Dr. Muhsincan Sesen (Research Associate at Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering)
The microfluidic revolution began some 15 years ago, however, it’s taking place behind the scenes in the laboratories. Unless one is working in this industry, keeping up-to-date with the advancements in microfluidics might not be as straightforward as keeping track of new gadgets, cars and phones. Not to worry, this talk will serve you a pitcher of current and future microfluidics.

Grow Your Own Organ

Professor Jamie Davies (Professor of Experimental Anatomy)
Jamie Davies is Professor of Experimental Anatomy at the University of Edinburgh. Part of the work of his group focuses on building mini-organs in the lab, from stem cells. The eventual aim of this work is the production of transplantable organs, but intermediate goals include the production of mini-organs from individual patients, for testing of possible treatments on their specific diseases and cells.
