A detection at last! Ever since the prediction from Einstein, the hunt for gravitational waves has been on and after years of research and experimentation, has finally come to fruition. This evening, you'll discover the processes involved in this historic detection, the cataclysmic event that caused it and how this effects our interpretation of the universe.

This event will take place upstairs.

Gravitational waves - The quest for Einstein’s final prediction

Dr John Veitch (STFC Ernest Rutherford Research Fellow)
Einstein was right! (Again). In this session, John will introduce gravitational waves, the history of detection efforts, and explain how the recent discovery will transform our understanding of the universe.

Black holes and revelations
