Uncorking the causes of dementia
Dr Petra Proitsi
(Reader in Genetic Epidemiology)
There are over 50 million people with dementia worldwide. Maybe somebody you know too. It affects memory, language and thinking abilities. But we still don't fully understand the causes, so it’s been really hard to develop preventions and treatments. In my talk I'll explain how I'm trying to get to the bottom of what causes dementia using cutting-edge statistical methods. We have huge data banks with information on everything from a person's genes and fats to their alcohol intake. It's my hope that by analysing this data, in a smart way, we can crack dementia’s complex causes.
Are two heads better than three hands?
Dr Ekaterina Ivanova
(Lecturer in Human-Machine Interaction)
In this talk, we will explore human motion augmentation and haptic communication with robotics. Drawing from our experimental research, we unravel the mechanisms of physical interaction within human-human teams and translate these insights into facilitating natural human-robot collaboration. Join us as we navigate through the challenges and opportunities in designing haptic interfaces that expand human capabilities and enable seamless collaboration between humans and robots.
