This evening we’ll hear from three speakers from the Academic Centre for healthy ageing (ACHA) - a unique collaboration between QMUL, Barts Health and multiple community partners to improve healthy ageing in NE London through research and the practical implementation on the ground.

Minds in motion: ageing, illness and the world around us.

Prof. Elizabeth Sampson (Inaugural Chair in the QMUL/Barts Health Academic Centre for Healthy Ageing)
In this talk Liz will discuss how as we age our minds become more vulnerable to challenges, such as sudden illness, chronic degeneration and the impacts of a society that does not always support people to age well. However, there is a lot we can do to look after our brains as we get older, minimise the impact of illness, and adapt positively to a changing world.

The world in motion: adapting the necessary adjustments for an ageing population

Prof. Adam Gordon (Professor of Care of Older People at the Academic Centre of Healthy Ageing)
In this talk Adam will reflect upon how we need to adapt our world to make the most of the opportunities associated with population ageing. He’ll discuss health and care policy, the built environment, technology and the world of work.

Bodies in motion: healthy ageing – start with the end in mind.

Prof. Simon Conroy (Honorary Professor of Geriatric Medicine)
In this talk Simon will discuss how as we age our bodies become more vulnerable to challenges. However, there is a lot we can do to look after our bodies, starting in the womb and continuing throughout life.
