We have long understood the significant role that the environment in which we live can play on our health. This evening will explore new research studying different aspects of the environment and how they can be exploited to improve treatments for patients, as well as the wellbeing of the entire population.
This event will take place downstairs in the Sugarloaf Bar.

Take once a day with light
Dr David Hodson
(Senior Birmingham Fellow )
Photopharmacology describes the use of light to precisely target drug activity in space or time. This may increase the safety and efficacy of disease treatment by improving drug selectivity. However, considerable obstacles exist, namely whether patients would accept implantation with light-emitting devices to allow drug activation. In the present talk, I will describe the principles underlying photopharmacology, some of the light-activated drugs produced to date, methods for discretely illuminating body compartments, and future challenges.
A breath of fresh air
Dr Laura Jones
(Lecturer in Qualitative and Mixed-Methods Applied Health Research)
This talk will be an interactive and hopefully
enlightening tour through the key facts around smoking
and secondhand smoke. The session will be run in the
style of a pub quiz, with prizes for participation. I hope
that by the end of the night you will have gained an
insight into how my research makes a difference to
smoking families
