Whether you're team ‘wow, scary smart!’ or ‘just clever maths’, this evening will get you questioning what it really means to be intelligent and human. Expect lively ideas and hands-on fun!

The Brain and Artificial Intelligence

Professor Kenneth D. Harris (Professor of Quantitative Neuroscience)
The human brain, with its billions of interconnected neurons, is a powerful information-processing system. Its true complexity lies in how these neurons form networks that control behavior, learn, and adapt. Professor Kenneth Harris is a leading neuroscientist at UCL. His talk explores how the brain processes information, acquires new skills, and how these principles are inspiring the next generation of artificial intelligence.

How Can Large Language Models Become More Human?

Professor Mehrnoosh Sadrzadeh (Professor of Computer Science)
Professor Mehrnoosh Sadrzadeh is a computer scientist and Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair at UCL working at the intersection of language, logic, and AI. In this talk, she’ll explore how large language models like ChatGPT handle tricky sentences — and why they sometimes get it wrong. By combining linguistics with powerful mathematical tools, her research aims to make AI understand language more like humans do.
