The Social Impact of AI

In this talk, Andrew will explore the recent rapid rise of AI and the inroads the technology is making into jobs and business sectors previously thought to be immune from AI. He’ll explore some potential uses of Generative AI including the creative industries and social care of older adults, highlighting some of the questions we might want to ask ourselves about before deploying such applications at scale.

Professor Prashant Kumar, Founding Director of the University of Surrey’s Global Centre for Clean Air Research and Co-Director of the Institute for Sustainability, is a pioneering leader in environmental research. His ground-breaking contributions earned him the Haagen-Smit Clean Air Award, regarded as the ‘Nobel Prize’ of clean air achievements. He established the Guildford Living Lab, which collaborates with local communities to co-design innovative solutions for cleaner air and climate resilience. In this talk, he will share insights into his team’s impactful work, including the UK’s first ‘living school gate’ at Sandfield Primary School, developed in partnership with ZERO (where he serves as a Board Trustee) and local residents.
