Dr Valentina Sclafani
(Senior Lecturer in Psychology)
How do babies begin to understand the world around them? Discover the power of maternal responses in shaping the development of our youngest generations. It's not just a tale of cooing and cuddles; it's an exploration of how babies learn about relationships, expectations, and culture. Uncover the fascinating similarities and differences in the ways human and non-human primate mothers and infants connect and communicate. We will delve into the world of infants, shedding light on how they navigate the complex world of social interactions through their mothers' mirroring responses.
An unexpected crime: How gambling addiction can lead to prison
Dr Lauren Smith
(Senior Lecturer in Psychology)
Gambling is an activity which people participate in around the world. For most people, gambling is a leisure activity, enjoyed without harm; it can be exciting and fun. However, for some people, gambling can evolve into ‘disordered gambling’ which can lead to significant harm, such as damaged relationships, problems with finances and difficulties at work. It can even lead to the commission of crime. Join us to explore how gambling can mean even the most successful of people can find themselves in prison and what is being done, or not being done, to support people to reduce gambling-related harms.
