The psychology of dieting

Professor Jane Ogden (Professor of Health Psychology)
We are constantly bombarded by TV programmes and self help books offering a miracle cure for weight loss yet the world is getting heavier. We are therefore sold miracle diets but it is increasingly clear that diets don't work. This talk will look at why we eat, why we overeat and why dieting is so hard. It will look at what we can learn from those people who lose weight and keep it off and the chances of losing weight and keeping it off can be improved with some simple psychological take home tips.

Victims of environmental threats or agents of change?

Dr Chris Jones (Senior Lecturer in Social and Environmental Psychology)
Dr Kayleigh Wyles (Lecturer in Environmental Psychology)
Prof. Birgitta Gatersleben (Professor of Environmental Psychology)
Professor David Uzzell (Professor of Environmental Psychology)
Representatives of the Environmental Psychology Research Group (EPRG) will provide an introduction to Environmental Psychology and will then outline a series of examples designed to showcase how the findings of psychological research can be used to empower people to live more sustainably, while not necessarily compromising their standard of living.
